Should I buy now, or wait for Yonah? I wish they used socketed processors (I know this would increase width) so that I could buy now and upgrade later, but since that is not an option, and I'd rather not buy a non-64 bit processor, what do you suggest?

I think you're thinking of Merom, since the core duo is Yonah. Depends what you need now. 64-bit would be good future protection, but it doesn't seem like apps will be ready for it for quite some time. So...
If you could comfortably wait for 6 months, then maybe do it, if not don't feel bad about getting one now. In the 3 years it takes to get things up to 64-bit you'll want another new computer then

The current ones are Yonah. You mean merom. If you need a laptop now buty now! Unless you are going to want more that 4Gb of RAM what will you use a 64bit laptop for?

I agree. If you are in need of a laptop, buy the MBP. I was, and I did. There will ALWAYS be something new on the horizons, it's just that way, and you can't get around it. Good luck on the decision, it's a tough one.

Yes, yes, I meant Merom - I've gotten so confused by all these recent codenames. I think I may buy it now, then sell it when Merom comes out and get a new one.

I say good choice to buy now, it seems that most of the issues with the 15 inch MBP have been worked out, and who knows, you might end up keeping it longer than you expected...
