Hello all, I am a recent switcher. I got my macbook core duo, 512mb ram, 60gig hd, etc. yesterday. I plan on upgrading the hard drive and ram soon, but first I want to consider some protective cases and covers for it. Particularly looking at the hard shell cases, Techshell, Speck or the Macessity bookshell. Does anyone have any advice/experience they are willing to offer about any of these three options? I have read a bit about the techshell and quite alot about the speck, but the bookshell doesn't have many reviews floating around yet, but looks to be the best option since it has the cooling slots on the bottom and appears to be totally smooth, unlike the speck case.

I was also wondering about palm/keyboard protectors. Are they worth it? Do they really overheat your mb like some say? I am debating between the moshi palm protectors, or a keyboard cover that extends over the palm rest. I am mostly interested in any experience some of you may have with the extended keyboard covers. Are there any issues with these, such as the screen not closing or being pushed against by the cover?

Sorry for the huge post, I am very excited about switching to mac and welcome all of your help. Thanks all.

About cases I can't recommend you a lot. What I think is an essential is a sleeve, they are very helpful.

And about the palm-rest protectors, my recommendation is NOT to buy them. They make your MB look ugly (even the "invisible" one). And it's not like the MB gets scratched or damaged that easy. I've had my MB for nearly 10 months and my palm-rest area is in perfect conditions.

You can see that it is not a new Mac, but it does not looks ugly, not even near to look ugly. And even less in a white MB. The black ones seem to show more where you rest your palms, it gets a little shiny after a while.

The palm rest covers are not necessary. I do, however, highly recommend a screen protector / keyboard cover. They will keep your screen mint year after year. We have used the ShaggyMacs for years. Their products are top notch.

Actually I found the moshi palmrests to look really nice and I like feeling that I don't have to think at all about scratches from watches, pens, paperclips etc - I can just work the way I want to and never think about it.

I 2nd the Shaggymac. Nothing but great things have been heard about them. Great $13 investment. I had considered the BESTSKINSEVER for the palmrests on my macbook, but I haven't seen any discoloration in the last 11 months. After Apple replaced for the first set of palmrests.
