Ok, so I bought a Macbook, and put 2GB of ram into it. Everything works fine when the comp is first on, then after running a couple of programs, like safari, quicktime, itunes, vlc, quicktime starts to run horribly slow.

So I quit out of all my open programs and open quicktime, to watch the video. It still plays really slow and choppy, then I go and check iStat Pro in my dashboard and it shows that I am using 1.96GB of ram.

So I quit all my programs and let my comp sit there for a couple of minutes with nothing running, then I check again and it says that I'm still using 1.96GB.

Ok, so I go check activity moniter, and it says that 1.96GB is being used, but of that 1.4GB is inactive, with 20MB free.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or is it even a real problem?

This question gets asked on here a lot...no, it's not a problem.

Check out this Apple article, particularly the last paragraph.

Thanks for the quick reply, you have any idea why quicktime is running really slow though?

Might be caused by the video file. Do you know what kind of file it is and what codec its encoded with? Look in the Window-> Get Movie Info window and see what it says beside "format."

They are all either .mov files or wmv files, but I have the flip4mac beta. So that might be the problem as its just a beta.

Its hard to say without knowing what the files are. If you care enough, upload the video(s) to a place like http://www.yousendit.com and I'll DL them and see if I can figure out why they're having problems.

Thanks, for offering but its not that big of a deal, maybe its my Mac's way of telling me to stop procrastinating and to start studying for my finals.

Could well be. Go study! :D

That machine really shouldn't have problems playing any video thats below HD quality. Let us know if you continue to have problems and someone around here should be able to find a solution for you.
