MacBook RAM

Hi... quick question,

Is iBook/pBook RAM interchangable with MacBook RAM, i.e. could I save some money by putting some old RAM from my iBook into a MacBook? Or do I have to buy new? I don't really understand this DDR/DDR2 thing and I always used to swap PC2100/2700/3200 in machines so was wondering if it would work in MacBooks.

Simply put, I'd say no. The RAM spec is different and the MacBook bus speed is way faster than the iBook and PowerBook.

Yeh, AFAIK the RAM in a MacBook is DDR2 whereas it was DDR before. These are not compatible. Unless they made it accept DDR and DDR2 but I doubt it because the bus design changed...

Maybe an email to Apple would help.

Just to say thanks for your help, I bumped the RAM today up to 1.25Gb and the thing is running so much better, really impressed I bought the stick from my local computer supplier for £69 which I thought was pretty good... it's Crucial stuff.
