I have the black macbook. For the last week or so (I have had this computer a little over a month), it just randomly shuts off. Sometimes, it won't even finish booting. I can re-start several times, and eventually (so far, anyway), I can get it to stay on until I am finished using the computer. I have 10.4.7 (I think) installed. Any idea what this problem is? Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

Call Apple or take it to the Apple store. No one here can help you with a problem like this.

It's a known problem - did you install the firmware update? What does About This Mac say?
He's a n00bie, and he doesn't know to search yet. Don't be so harsh.

i was not being harsh, i was pointing out how his question has been answered numerous times before in an effort to help the lad resove his problem.

don't be so judgmental.

and "doesn't know how to search?" - thats simply ridiculous.

I have started a few threads on this myself in addition to exploring other threads. The problem does not seem to be universal and seems to have many causes and many complicating factors. Sure, we should all use the search function before posting but lets not forget that this seems to be a multifactorial thing.

I mean, just today I found this "report". Who knows, maybe there will be a recall or exchange.
