I don't know what the hell is wrong with my new macbook. I bought it literally two weeks ago. It went to sleep one day and then never woke up. Yes i know, "hold down the power button and turn it back on." I did that. Here's the problem, it refuses to turn back on! It refuses to boot ANYTHING. I know it's not the HD, because it's been in one single place for the past two weeks. I've barely used it with work and everything. It can't be the battery because it's fully charged. I've done every troubleshooting trick i could think of. NOTHING. No boot up or anything. The boot screen doesn't come on to tell me it can't find the HD, so it's not a startup issue. The screen isn't cracked, i've checked. There absolutely no reason why it is unable to turn on! HELP!

I'm taking it to the mac store tomorrow (hopefully they can do something, i stupidly bought it from best buy thinking it would get me more reward zone points to get something like a carrying bag or something for this thing). Will they help? Will they do anything?

it absolutely is not dimmed all the way, i've even tried undimming it after leaving it on for an hour, hoping and praying that it just booted, i get nothing. I can't even see the light when i turn on capslock. It's not booting AT ALL.

did you by chance do a firmware upgrade recently? i know from experience that if the firmware upgrade is interupted it wont let you do anything. like it wont turn on. if thats the case you have to burn the firmware to a cd and then do something else. ill have to look it up

little more info, the status LED (you know the one that goes on and off like it's "snoring" when in sleep mode) slowly turns on and stays on. It does not change status at all.

Yes, i in fact did, however, it was not interrupted at all, restarted and worked perfectly for about four days. It was done just fine. In my troubleshooting i also put in my os x disc. It refuses to eject the disk at all.

heres some links to help you out

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303234

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300552

http://search.info.apple.com/index.html?q=won't%20turn%20on%20%20kmb&lr=lang_en&search=Go&type=

the third one is the main link as to where i got the first 2

Did everything there, except take it to an apple store. I work at night, and i'm asleep during the hours that the apple care line is open. I am taking it to the applestore tomorrow. I don't know what could be wrong at all. Hopefully this will not cost me a dime and i will be SEVERELY pissed if it costs me any money whatsoever. I did nothing to this mac and it's already screwed up.

most likely not unfortunately. i know when my macbook was having random shutdowns, they advised me to back up all my data before sending it in. luckily for me the firmware fixed the rss issue for me.

they will probably hold onto your computer for a week or more so just be prepared for that inconvience. ive heard some stories of more than a month which would really suck

i wonder if you can somehow boot into target disk mode and backup your data. i have no experience in target disk mode so hopefully someone knows if thats possible (since you say the status light is on gives me some reason to hope it might)

And just when i downloaded EVERY episode of degrassi jr high.... :(

I've already been unable to use it for a week, right now, i'm using a duron box i've outfitted with debian linux. It's very slow and cumbersome.

I can't get it to boot at all, i doubt i can even boot into the mac equivilent of cmos.

I feel your pain! I left the room for 5 min and when I came back I thought my macbook was asleep...black screen and all, but I can't wake it up. The LED is solid and it makes harddrive noises but no response...

Apple just received it today so hopefully I will get it back soon!

Hmm

I've been using my MB for 9 days now... twice it has refused to boot..

plugged it in, and then it booted.. told me that OS had not been shut down properly... (which is BS)..

dunno why.. hope it stops happening.

must say that a mac is still a computer, with all the problems of a computer.. which seems obvious, but the mac enthusiasts fail to mention that part.

I'm no stranger to mac problems (i've owned two iTitaniums, it would somehow short itself out repeatedly because of the goddamn expensive case).

so i took it to the apple store today. They took a look at it, and they had never seen a problem like it before, they checked everything, even the case and determined i had done nothing to it, so they're shipping it back. They're also going to check and see if it's the logic board. More than likely i was shipped with a malfunctioning one.
