I've been wanting a macbook for some time now but i've decided that with all the rumors about new macbooks coming with the release of leopard that it was best to hold off for a while. So today apple finally formally announced leopard, and what do you know, the home page of mac os x (apple.com/macosx) displays leopard on macbooks. seeing as apple just released new imacs this summer, wouldn't you think they'd display leopard on the flashy new aluminum imacs instead of the old plastic macbooks? Could this be some sort of hint that new macbooks will be released with leopard?

We can always check the model number strings when Leopard ships to see if there's anything new there.

10.4.11 can be a candidate too.

:apple::apple:I have been hearing rumours as well about the Macbook getting a new graphics chip and bigger SODIMM slots to recieve more RAM. Also, some threads i have seen, say that the touch screen interface will arrive on the macbook. I am going to wait till the end of October to buy my first mac, and by then I hope they will have brought out a new macbook with better specifications and a more affordable price list. Obviously they can't max the macbook out, as they don't particularly want to close the gap between the MBP(Macbook Pro) and the Macbook too much.

There is pretty much zero chance that the new MBs will have a touch screen interface. Come on now. Rumors = voices in your head?? hehe

if the macbook goes santa rosa (which a lot of us are waiting for :p) then it will get the new X3100 intel integrated gpu - a breath of fresh gfx air (breathe it in!).

santa rosa also supports up to 4Gb ram - which is perhaps the rumor u heard and not the "bigger SODIMM slots" you mentioned...

as for touch screen? unlikely this year methinks...as the rumored upgrade is likely to be limited to a speed-bump on the cpu + santa rosa (which also comes with a handy FSB speed u/g).

im just waiting for the leopard buzz to die away and then (fingers crossed) :apple: will announce the u/g to the MB. :)

This is likely an accurate prediction. Speed bump + hopefully SR chipset.

New Casing

:apple:What ever happened to the new casing rumors from 9to5mac, no one believes those anymore?:apple:

Nope, they are advertizing Leopard on the "old" macbooks. It would be stupid to advertize a new operating system on a machine that will get a facelift within one month. That's why I think the only update we're getting is a speed bump and a new videocard.

Probably not

I'm hoping for a SR one, but keep in mind that Apple usually uses the macbooks/imacs in almost all of its ads. For example, at the end of all the mac guy/pc guy ads, the final shot is either of an iMac or a macbook, rarely do they use any other product lines.

Maybe Apple thinks that the iMacs/macbooks look the best in advertising? Who knows.

Macbooks are Apple's best selling computer I think, so thats why they show them.
