Hi everyone!

Bought my first mac ever after trying it out on my pc. OS X grabbed me in its claws instantly, and i bought a macbook w.dvd-burner to have an "all in one" box for editing, travelling and desktop use.

Since day one i have had problems. First it was the mouse button that where disfunctional, and the battery broke within a month. Second problem is that god forsaken über-crappy mat****a uj-857 that stopped reading any disk after about one and a half month. Then the keyboard stopped responding in minute-long periods.

Still, i recommended apple computers to everyone i knew, and have atleast had eight people converting.

As the dvd stopped working, i sent it in for repair. After three weeks i finally got it back, and + to apple, they have fixed the keyboard issue, the mouse issue, and a new inner shell, both the trackpad and the frame around the screen. BUT THAT GOD FORSAKEN DVD STILL DOES NOT WORK! They have put in a new drive, thats for sure as the problem is different now. The one i sent away would just spin up disks three times then spitting them out. Now the disk spins up, but does very very rarely show up in finder. When it does not show up, i have to hold eject while rebooting to get the damn disc out.

Is this a "never-to-be-solved"-problem? Just throw my damn macbook down some stairs and buy a (quality?) fujitsu-siemens laptop instead?

I'm working as an IT-Techie and do on-site support as well as warranty repairs and sales, and i have never experienced anything like this before :-( (EDIT: Sony VAIO is as crappy as this)

Sorry for the very long post, but im so angry right now :-( and bottom line:
If i send it back, will i get another(third!) damned matshita uj-857 that does not work?

Experiences?

What discs/DVDs are you having problems with ... the slot loading DVD burners Apple uses are known to be extremely picky about the brand used.

And highlighting crap to get around the profanity filter, isn't really allowed.

I just tried my never-ever-used os x install discs(alas. brand new) and after some fifteen minutes of waiting, it showed up as a "blank cdr) in finder. Sure, it could be picky, but picky to the level where not even apple produced discs work?

As for other discs, i have tried discs burned with my old UJ-857, and they dont show up.

I have tried blank and burned discs from tdk, traxdata, sony and some other smaller brands, and NO discs work what so ever. Tried loads of original music-cd's.

Tried to load a movie, but same there, and it is a brand new original dvd movie(Oh brother were art thou?)

:-(

As for highlighting matshita, i will change that now :) i was just so angry :-(

Call AppleCare. Tell them you just received your MacBook from service and it STILL is not working correctly. Tell them you've sent it off on two other occasions. They should have this information in their records. Ask them what they will do to make it right. Be patient, polite and calm. Sometimes things just don't go right, but I'm sure AppleCare will work with you until they make it right or *perhaps* even offer you a new Macbook.

Yeah, I will do that tomorrow. But right now it feels like im going to get a new not working matshita drive... and i probably will :-(

I have had this computer since september last year and i have had the chance to use it around one month. Right now my primary machine is a Athlon Xp 2000+ w. 512mb ram, it sucks but at least it got a WORKING optical drive... *sigh*

Any tips appreciated, and i will keep you updated on this.

I had to send my computer in 5 times to applecare. The best bet is to call them...explain to them how many times your unit has been in for repair and demand they give you a replacement unit. I had a core duo macbookpro and for all my troubles apple upgraded me to a core 2 du0 2.33 120 gig harddrive..and they let me pick it/swap it out at my local applestore!!!
