I've had my macbook for over a year and am running os 10.4.1
A few months ago, my computer began refusing to restart. It shuts down and powers us just fine, but any time I attempt to restart it goes through its shutdown process and stops at a black screen. The indicator light will still be on and I'll have to hold down the power button until it shuts off and then start it again by hand. Any ideas as to what's going on? Didn't find much at the apple support website...

I assume you are running 10.4.10 and not 10.4.1?
Have you tried resetting PMU and PRAM?

Yes, 10.4.10. I reset PMU and PRAM a few weeks ago and the problem seemed to go away for a while, i.e. a few successful restarts, but it came back.

edit: just reset PRAM again... attempted to restart to no avail!
