MacBook returns from repair worse than before!

Hi,

I just got my MacBook back from repair (screen flicker) but there is something seriously wrong with my DVD drive...

I can't put a disc in -- it feels like it's blocked. At first I thought the engineers might have left a disc in there, but I can't get it to eject.

What to do?

Call AppleCare.

Also, to try and eject a disk that may be stuck in there, restart your computer, and hold down the mouse button during the re-boot process.

Maybe try that but the mouse thingy should do the job.

First thing I would do is either send it back to Apple or take it back to where it was repaired. You really should not have to ask that question.

I took my machine to the Apple Store and they repaired it on the spot. It took about an hour, and was apparently due to the fact that the drive became incorrectly aligned during the screen-flicker repair.

Unbelievably, though, my firewire now seems to be broken. I've plugged in my external HDD, and it works fine through USB but isn't recognised via firewire. It goes without saying that this was never a problem before the repairs.

Is this a common problem with Apple repairs? Do things often spiral out of control. I live about two hours drive from the store and I'm bloody livid...

Typical. These laptops really are P'sOS. My advice would be to buy a PPC Apple laptop and wait for Apple to get it right (maybe the next revision). Or you can go get a replacement and come back here to complain about another problem it has. Your choice.

Ummm....my macbook is fabulous, no problems yet. And no problems from any of my friends who have purchsed the new C2D models.

There are a few buggy ones I'm sure, but it definitely isn't a POS by any stretch of the imagination.

Not typical in my experience. It sounds like the apple tech was not too careful when fixing the drive and may have knocked/damaged the FW port (?). Clearly that sucks, but i don't think it's common.
Maybe you could try to get some free stuff or something since each repair has led to another problem and is clearly not your fault (i.e. call applecare with your story before you take it back to the store).

Try restarting the computer. My USB port on my iMac wasn't working (I tried about 5 things and none of them would show up), but I restarted the computer and the USB port started working again. It might work for your firewire port.
