OK, I use my current PC for E-mail, Word, iTunes/iPod, Pictures, and web surfing. I want a new Mac and I am pretty sure I am going to order the 1.83 GHz, 60GB HD, 512 MB RAM Macbook. Is this computer enough for my needs?

Yes.

My other question is how a newbie gets to post so fast... This is a question you should be answering as you look in the mirror...

Why post a thread to ask the obvious?

By the looks of your signature it appears you already made up your mind.

Can we lock this thread?

The macbook definitely suits your needs, even with that configuration.

however, i would recommend going up to the 2.0 ghz model just because certain software will run faster. Although some people dont see too much difference, its still good to have. Up your ram to 1gb too, you will find it easier to work with more than a few programs at once.

Get the best you can for a realistic amount of cash. If you can afford to get the MacBook Pro...why not?! That's my philosophy.

Im going to get some more RAM later this summer. Im only 15 and get about $200 a month. I currently have $700 and need about $400 more. So after I buy the Macbook, Ill buy more RAM.

Don't buy the faster SuperDrive model. Most benchmark tests show that the 2GHz version is only slightly faster......like within 5% of the speed. You're better off getting the 1.86 Ghz model and an external DVD burner.

It's going to far exceed your needs. Since you're not going to be doing anything that'll take advantage of all that excess power, you'll probably be better off buying an older laptop and saving a lot of money.

As for a DVD burner, it's not too great. For your uses, you're not really going to use it much at all, if at all. You can probably pick up one of the PPC iBooks for really cheap, and it'll do everything you need, and do it well.

You can put the extra money into buying ram.

You might want the MacBook, though, if you are itching for an ipod nano. Or if you really want that iSight. I want a webcam now, because I'd like to webconference with business partners in the States (I'm in Asia for 3 months), but if it weren't for that - I wouldn't really care to get an iSight either.

Personally I'd go with the 2.0GHz model. Its just that little bit faster (although you probably wont notice), and it has the superdrive. Sure you probably don't burn DVDs now, but what if you wanted to in the future?

Id also go with the 1GB of RAM. If the extra RAM is pushing the budget a bit, its not really necessary, but when running multiple applications, the computer will be much smoother.
