I got my macbook about 10 days ago. It's been running at about 65C average whilst I use Safari, and a couple of other apps.

However, since I installed Aperture yesterday, it's averaging over 75C. Does this have anything to do with me installing aperture? Or is it just coincidence? Does anyone know of any reasons why the running temp would alter by such a great deal in such a short period of time?

Did you just install Aperature, or have you actually been running it? That is a beast of a program not really intended to be run on your MacBook, and it would certainly cause your computer to work REALLY hard to run it.

I've found that the Speedit kext (the thing that makes CoreDuoTemp work), is flakey at best. I occasionally see it reporting ridiculous numbers....like 15C (for extended periods of time, when the ambient temp is 25C), or 90C when the machine is cold.

I think MacBook owners need to stop hovering over their CoreDuo Temp Widget and enjoy their machines.

While this is probably true, when you pay a grand for something, when the most you previously paid for anything was £200 for an ipod, you want to make sure everything is running without any major problems- I'd rather ask and be safe than sorry.

I fully agree, that is getting tiring. "OMG! My temp went up 1 degree!!! What should I do?!?" Arghh!! They spend more time stuck to that damn widget than actually using their machine. Not to mention how flaky widgets can be.

Not saying that is what the OP of THIS thread has done...but logically if you install and run a heavy duty piece of software that isn't really meant for your machine the temp is going to rise. It looks like it's still within the safe limits, though.

My point is, though, that I've only installed it, I haven't even RUN it yet. Temp is back down now, although does ccassionally go up., but all seems well
