I recently saw a new MacBook Pro side by side with my PowerBook g4 1.5
I must say the MBP made my Powerbook screen look horrid.

My question is the MacBook screen that much better as well??

if your MBP is matte, you might find the MB glossy screen even better :D

As stated in my original post I have a Powerbook not the MBP.
Just curious if the MB screen is as bright as the MBP.

My PB looked dim and washed out when side by side with the MBP

i would assume that a glossy MBP would have the same brightness and pixels per inch as the MB. The PB looks dim and washed out because it is older display technology; wait 5 years and the MB screen will look the same compared to the technology of then.

I wouldn't assume that at all. The PB and the iBook screens were very different.

If I had to guess I would say the MPB screen is better than the MB. Does anyone have both that could comment on how they look side by side?

Thanks

My MacBook was no where near as bright as my MacBook Pro. In fact the color on the MacBook is way worse than the PowerBook.

Interesting...well my friend just got a MBP and MB for myself. I'll compare the two. Also, my professor has a Powerbook and he wants to checkout my MB once I get it so I'll compare those two too. Yet another friend of mine has an iBook so I'll compare that against the MB just for the fun of it. :D

Colour calibration works wonders. You'd find that after calibration with even a cheap Spyder 2 the PB's screen displays cleaner colours than the dotty and grainy MBP's.

YMMV though, the quality of the screens can vary wildly.

using a macbook to type this, i can say that the screens are superb and far better than my old 12in powerbooks screen. my gf has a CD and a C2D mbp, i have a macbook and powerbook, and a friend of mine at uni has an ibook 12in, in terms of screen quality, here is what i have found (with the mbp's, i tested them side by side yesterday):

Best

C2D MBP
CD MBP
C2D MB
Powerbook
iBook

Worst

I have to add though that the Macbook's screen is amazing, i absolutely adore the gossy screen, and if i was to buy a mbp, i would probably get the glossy screen version!

^^Was the screen upgraded when the MBPs were upgraded from CD to C2D processors? I didn't know they were.

No you won't, and this is coming from a MacBook user.

The brightness of the MBs screen is fantastic. The viewing angle, particularly in the vertical direction, is so bad that I can't recommend it to anyone who takes photos and actually cares about the results. In fact, I'm thinking about selling it now after 6 months of ownership. Horizontal viewing angle is bad, but not as bad as vertically. It's so bad that parts of a photo that are in the middle of the screen are brighter than sections of the photo near the edges, and this isn't a screen backlighting flaw. This is because the viewing angle for all these sections of a photo are different. Pretty much any graphics or photography buff knows this about the MacBook, but if you are an early adopter like myself, you would have never had a chance to find this out until it's too late.

The MacBook screen is much brighter than the 12" PowerBook's screen. You'll love the MBs screen much more, I think. The viewing angle may be bad, but the brightness and contrast of the 12" PowerBook's screen was worse. If you had one of the most recent 15" and 17" models, the MacBook's screens are a bit better than before, except for viewing angle, which would make me prefer the

The 12" PB 867 MHz and 1 Ghz versions had the same screen as the iBook 12" model.

Oh, and despite the complaints, I love my MacBook. :)

Have to agree about the c**p vertical viewing angle on the MB screen. Coming from a G3 12" iBook, the screen is certainly brighter, but trying to properly view a large photographic image is a real problem - 10º above straight-on and things are badly bleached, 10º below and the colours go haywire to the point of being unrecognisable.
