I just got my Blackbook back from a fix from the dreaded Randomly-Shuts-Down issue, and after a software update and reboot, the display didn't work at all.
Called Applecare. Convinced them that 91 days is still reasonably in their support window since 12 of those days the Macbook was out for repair anyways.
So, here was the fix.
Reset the PMU:
- Remove power and battery. Press the power button for 5 to 10 seconds
- Reinstall power and battery.
Reset the PRAM:
- With the computer off, turn it on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R. The computer will re-chime. Keep holding it down until the goofy grey, blobular, rainbowy display is replaced by the "Apple Grey" of the bootup screen.
This post is mostly for Google to slurp up. Perhaps I should make a Guide out of it.
