Maybe the title isn't all it's cracked up to be. Anyway, this is for all those happy macbook owners out there. The other night I was working on my macbook, and happened to notice that the left side of the book (port side) was not as rigid as the right side. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the area of concern was where the screw closest to the ports is. It does not seem like it is screwed to anything, making it easier than the right side to push in. I was wondering if this is normal or not. When the lid is closed it still lines up pretty good, but the side is a bit wobbly (sorry for the spelling). Any ideas. Otherwise, I thought that I would mention that the blackbook is doing very well, and happens to be one of the first weeks specimen. Very good machine.

I've found this as well. it is slightly disconcerting. I think it only showed up after i removed the battery. But after about a week of fretting slightly about whether my macbook was going to fall apart, i don't really mind now. What i'm starting to mind is the keys turning yellow..

That's because the two screws on the outside of the case on the left side arn't screwed into anything! All they do is screw into a little plate that is on the other side of the bottom case for visual consistency.
The screws that hold that part together are inside the battery bay.

Am i the only one that finds it disheartening that Apple has been having a lot of quality control issues lately? iPods, notebooks, iMacs, pros... maybe it's just because a lot of people voice their opinions when things go wrong, and not when they go right... still, it worries me. Well at least i have Apple Care

No, it doesn't. The screws on the inside of the battery bay serve the purpose that the screws on the outside have served in the past. Don't worry, your top-case isn't falling off! Just, in earlier models, the battery bay was near the back, or not near the sides, so those screws don't get to serve that purpose.
I have noticed this, but my left side is sturdy, and my right side can kinda be pushed in, like its popping in and out..
Its not noticable unless you actually try to do it, but it sucks..Mines a whitebook.
I wonder if it will change when i have the discolouration taken care of...

Mine too.. makes a creaky sound when I push it in. Hopefully its the only problem I have.
I was pretty paranoid about the whole random shutdown thing. I brought it in to the Genius because it turned off while running the "yes" command-- turned out it was just sleeping. Heh.

Not really. While the Macbook/Macbook Pro line have certainly had problems, it is blown way out of proportion by the media. It's like the Apple has to be perfect or something.
Every computer manufacturer has quality control issues. The attention that the iPod brings to Apple also makes it an easy target when something else goes wrong. How ironic!
Dude don't mess with that. I noticed the exact same issue with my macbook and I got really pissed. I played around with it slightly pushing it in and pulling it back out to see if it really isn't screwed to anything and after a while of playing around with it, it started squeaking HORRIBLY. Furthermore as my macbook heated upthe left palm-rest started making horrible noises whenever I'd put my palm on it. Sounded like a squeaking bird. It was so annoying I returned the damn thing and got a new one. Didn't have much luck with the new one anyways lol
The right palm rest on my white MacBook seems to be making "popping" noises every once in awhile if I press down on it from the top. The sound is kind of like an adhesive that isn't sticking anymore.
My black macbook, week 19 had the same issue, left side was creaky if you pushed it in a little, it gave a little and made a funny noise.
