i just got a Seagate 120gb sata replacement hard drive and when i installed it it did not see the hard drive when starting the installation of OSX. do i need to do anything special to get the macbook to see the new drive or do i probably just have a bad drive?

Go to ifixit.com, look up their guides, and make sure you did it EXACTLY like the pictures they show you

it was installed correctly. it just does not recognize it.

That is the same drive that I put in my MB. I had no problems so I would say that you must have gotten a dud. Once you get a good one they are great. Good Luck

Did you boot from the OS X Install Disc and rather than start the installation, open Disk Utility instead? You should see the drive listed there, but it will probably require formatting before the OS X installer will see it...
