MacBook security slot

Hi, this is going to sound ridiculous, but is the MacBook's security slot smaller/tighter than other laptops?

I'm using a Targus Defcon security lock and I find it quite hard to get it in and out of the MacBook's slot. I have previously used the same lock with Dell's and HP's and never had any problems.

I prefer mine smaller and tighter. If you are finding to hard to get it in and out of the hole, go slowly. Perhaps a bit of lubrication will help.

Hmm... that might help. Any suggestions on type of lubricant that doesn't eat plastic? My first thought is WD40, but I'm not sure how plastic-friendly it is.

DO NOT use wd40! It is petroleum based. Use some KY.

I'm not even sure those water-based ones will work, it's gonna leave residue when it dries up

What I did was to put a tiny bit of Vaseline on the prongs of the lock. Then I need a lot more care when inserting the lock into my MacBook compared to the Dell. Once inserted, there's hardly any wriggle room for the lock. I also have to be sure that the lock is perfectly perpendicular to the slot while trying to remove it.

I'll try to post some pics later, don't have my camera at hand right now.

I didn't need lube - but you do need to be orthogonal to the MacBook and it is damn tight. As usual, tight is good though.

It's likely the tolerance for the locks and slots are different for each manufacturer. I guess I'm so used to wriggly locks w/ Dells and HPs that I didn't realise how good the fit is on the MacBook.

But yea... the tight fit is good, less chance of the lock being wrenched out!
