Ok, the situation is that when the battery gets empty my Macbook doesn't use Safe Sleep and go to sleep. It just shuts down completely. What's wrong? Is the battery malfunctioning? Should I take it for repairing or what?

If your battery is empty and it's not plugged into an external power source, it will shutdown. It has no power. ;)

Thank you Jah...I'm so Blessed
OP, what happens when you open the lid when you put the laptop on charge...do you have to push the power button again to start it up?

When your battery reaches its last do you get the warning message?

Bless

Yes, I have to press the Power button and then it boots up normally. Safe Sleep isn't working. And when my battery reaches its last it notifies me that it's gonna go to sleep in few minutes if i dont connect the ac adapter. But then it just shuts down completely.

This started to happen with my MBP when I continued to use the "bad" battery. When I started using the new battery that Apple sent me in the MBP exchange this stopped happening.

So its most likely a bad battery.

You sure about that? When my battery is next to empty is shows a warning screen and then it goes to SLEEP.

I assume you were being sarcastic...

it's not supposed to do this.. as when you do battery calibration, it's supposed to go to sleep mode.

I see.

But how long does SafeSleep last? (Off topic question)
several hours is what it is supposted to be, but I haven't timed it to check and haven't calibrated my battery in a while.

question: if there is no battery in the bay but it is plugged in does the macbook still run? (battery is removed)

and if so.is this 'okay' for the computer? (won't warp or anything etc..overheat?)

I've calibrated the battery several times but it still doesn't work.

Be happy it's just the battery. I had the battery replaced today by the "genius bar" guys after my computer exhibited the exact same symptoms. Just shuts down randomly when battery is running down instead of going to sleep or giving warning message. Heck, mine would go from 100 down to 90, then boom, shut off.

They replaced the battery, but I still have more problems. Over heating, locking up, rebooting, shutting off, stuck cursor (no mouse response), and more. They just want to keep on fixing it. Strange thing is, I get it back and its not fixed. I have had enough of the not genius bar, and apple care (or apple doesn't care).
