Hi guys,

I'm buying my mate a MacBook on Sunday cause he likes my MBP and I was wondering how the speakers on it compare to the ones on a MBP? Black one with 2GB RAM is what we will be getting.

Thanks

They're not very good. Quieter than my iBook ones, definitely worse than the MBP speakers. Somewhat surprisingly, Mac Fixit reports that they are louder in Windows so OSX must be putting a lower limit on their output.

They'll do in a pinch but the MBP speakers are much better, especially the 17" model, it has 4 speakers in it I think - the website says twice as many and better speakers than the 17" Powerbook so I'm pretty sure it has 4.

my macbook speakers are pretty quiet. when i sit about 2 feet away from the screen, I can still hear it, but if there is any background noise (like the fan behind me because its SO FREAKIN HOT THIS SUMMER) i cant hear things too well.

I will say the sound QUALITY seems better than my 12'' PowerBook though. Many of the music I played on my PB sounds totally different and better IMO on the MacBook than the PB. But that might simply be because the 12'' PB also had small speakers and was louder which made it distort.
