Ive had my macbook for about a month now and Im not sure if i just expect too much or what but i have some issues with the overall speed of my computer. First off i see the beach ball pretty often, my widgets take a pretty long time to load up the first time i use them, ive had a couple different programs unexectedly quit on me a number of times, and to top it off, it froze on me within the first two weeks. Are these issues pretty common? Should i just upgrade my ram? ive got 1 gig right now...Also playing full screen video reeeally makes it lag.

Are you running programs that have to use Rosetta?

I have 1.25 gigs of RAM and it runs fine unless I'm running word or something.

Rosetta is an application that translates Power PC apps to the Intel format. Stuff like Microsoft word has to run through it, so it tends to lag more than other apps.

You can see less of the beach ball if you uncheck "put harddisk(s) to sleep when possible" in System preferences>energy saver. Waiting for the harddrive to wake up is *one* reason the beach ball shows Another reason for the beach is waiting for the computer to move some stuff from the RAM to the harddrive in which case adding more RAM would help).
Widgets-the first time after a reboot, it's normal for it to take a while. MBPs are like that too. But it really shouldn't matter unless you shutdown everyday. If you do then I suggest doing a search on this forum on that subject (most people just use sleep).
Rosseta is what translates PowerPC apps to run on Intel chips. They use alot more RAM than Universal apps which run natively on Intel chips and PPC chips. If I recall correctly, Photoshop alone uses 500mb of RAM (under Rosseta).
As for the freezes I don't know what to say. Even my PowerBook with 512MB RAM didn't freeze more than once every 2-3 months if I'm unlucky.

hope this helps

Oh and it's about time the spell check in TextEdit knew what "Rosseta" is.

the beachball is not normal. I have the same problem when running off the internal hard drive but when I run off my external drive I get the beachball 99% less.

I remember reading a thread on the apple forums a long time ago that some of the 80 gb macbook drives (this is from the original core duo) were screwed up.

I'd take your computer in
