Macbook suddenly much noisier

My Macbook just got a lot noisier...

I can now hear the harddrive making noises (the kind of noises my crappy external harddrive makes), and the fan seems to be constantly going at a low speed...a drastic difference from the dead silent Macbook I had this morning. Any ideas on what it could be, or any sort of diagnostic tests I can do? I'm really nervous...

the only thing that I have done that could have caused it is I carried it downstairs while it was running, but I didn't make any sudden or jarring moves with it...

well I called Applecare and seem to have sorted out the harddrive noise (I had to repair the disk), but there's still the fan noise...I can definitely hear the fan now when I couldn't before..any ideas on why it's either running when it didn't used to (I have a light CPU load right now, just iTunes, Word, MSN and Firefox, and it used to be completely silent under the same conditions), or is running louder than it used to?

you had it on for long periods of time? maybe reboot or let it shut down for a lil...

only other thing i can think of is it not getting enough air? somehow blockin the vents or is your heat ridiculously high in your house? i mean we know macbooks have a heat issue sometimes and maybe the fans are just tryin to correct that?

yeah, I'm going to shut it off tonight and see what happens in the morning (though I once had it on for 2 weeks straight with no problems...it's only at a couple days now), I'm just worried because it went from being dead silent this morning to having a consistent fan noise this afternoon, without anything changing in between.
