Macbook temperature

That sounds about right. Macbooks run hotter than previous Apple notebooks. Kinda sucks. I'm thinking about opening mine up and reapplying the thermal paste. Some people get great results from that.
that was from a bad batch of early MBPs, though. As far as i know, the thermal grease in MB is fine. The bad application of thermal grease in the MBP meant the case got really hot. The case of the MB doesn't seem to get as hot, while the chips are running at 60. That means the paste is good.purelithium said:

Yeah i've had my MacBook for about 4-5 days and the temp is sitting between 59 and 64... I would say its normal and the hot palstic doesnt bother me as much as the aluminum on my MBP and it can get very very hot. But one thing i do not undersatnd.. Apple Suggest that you keep a MBP cool by placing it on a flat surface like on a desk. It still gets steaming hot its just not on your leg to burn the serial number in.. I dont understand how that logic works.. but then again apple told me it was normal that the MBP can and will burn you..
Well, my case gets rediculous hot. idles around 65, load is 100-105... not good at all.
Right above the f3-5 keys, it's really hot, and on the same spot underneath the 'book. Doesn't sound normal for a laptop to get this hot. sounds to me like the cooling system is not functioning properly. I looked at the ifixit guide pictures of the northbridge and CPU, and there looks to be way too much paste on the chips... i've opened PC notebooks and desktops before, this doesn't scare me.

That does seem hot. My wife's MB idles at about 50˚C and I've never seen it get above 84˚C when testing under heavy CPU load for 10 minutes. The fans came on full blast at 80˚C and kept the temperature low. Do your fans come on?purelithium said:
I wouldn't take it apart if I were you even if you're comfortable with it. Take it back to an Apple store. That's what warranties are for. If they screw up and break it, they'll replace it.

I swapped from a MBP to a MB because the MBP wrist rest area was sooo uncomfortably warm for me after using the keyboard extensively for an hour or two...

Well I'm in Canada, and I live 2 hours away from the applestore I bought this at... I'm not really up for spending the 50 bucks in gas to get there...
FWIW, once it's fully warmed up, mine idles around 50-55 if it's charging, 45-50 running off battery. The fans will come on under load to keep it under 80. It's OK for lap use under light load, but is uncomfortable if it's doing any heavy lifting. Setting it on a cutting board makes it bearable.
