I have the iMac g5 20", the first one they came out with. I am ready to switch to an iBook, and christmas might be a good time to do so! should I wait for Leopard to become pre-installed or should i go ahead and please myself with a new MacBook?

Where you say iBook I presume you mean "MacBook" right?
It's going to be a few months (around March, maybe April) before Leopard is due for release. If you can wait that long then yeah, wait, if not, you can wait till early January and get it after MWSF with iLife '07 pre-installed.
If you can't even wait that long then you've just gotta go for it.
If you can wait then wait. But if you really need a portable machine now then by all means buy now. No one but you knows what you really need. Simple as that.

no, ilife 07 is not a part of leopard just as ilife 06 is not a part of tiger... as in if you buy a retail version of leopard, you will not get ilife, 06 or 07
however if you buy a machine when leopard comes out, you can safely assume ilife 07 will be on there

Surely Leopard won't come with iLife 05 (or earlier) ..... that would be pants !!
