Your thread title is a statement, while your post is a question. Which is it? If it's the former, what's your source/evidence?

Perhaps when the MacBook Pro comes with OLED keyboard but then again, I would probably say it is not going to happen in the foreseeable future.

I doubt very highly the MacBooks will ever get backlit keyboards. Thinking about it though, does apple think "pros" have a harder time typing in the dark than the average consumer? I'd suspect it's exactly the opposite, but whatever. I should note, I do have a PowerBook G4 with a backlit keyboard....but it serves no real purpose other than looking cool and making people go "what did your computer just do?"

Why not?

The Macbook Pro (at least my stinky 15") has such a lousy display that even my previous Macbook trumps it by miles. Personally I don't care much for the backlit keyboard, and the A$1500 difference between the two laptops is more than enough for me to go on a spending spree to get a PeeCee that games like no mac has ever gamed before...

the backlit keyboard is a nice feature to have, but few and far between are the instances where i actually have a use for it. i think i may have used it.....5 times. in over a 18 months of ownership.

Honestly, on my powerbook, aside from demos to fascinated coworkers, I never used the backlight.

I'm a good enough typist that 95% of the time I don't need to look at the keyboard. In those cases that I needed to, the backlight from the display was enough to see the keys.

I did found it very annoying in mid-light conditions though, there would be a point where the light would turn on, but it just blended in with the keys, and made it look like the keys were unlabelled -- I didn't need the labels, but from an aesthetic point of view it was annoying. Then it would get darker, and the backlight would start to become distracting.

I really don't miss it with the MacBook.

That's why I returned mine after a month (and this, the Core 2 DUO) and got my $1800 cash back. Now, I feel less guilty, and better with my options in front of me -- spring for a Macbook C2D, or wait it out until core 2 duo refurbs show up some time after MWSF.
