Macbook trackpad key issue

Hey everyone,

If I gently touch the left side of my macbook's trackpad key (not depressing it), it makes a loud clicking noise, almost like it is out of line and hitting something below. The further to the right i move along the key, the softer the noise gets, but it is still very audible. It doesn't affect performance in any way, but is rather annoying. Has anyone else had this problem, or have any idea what I can do to fix it? It's almost as if the key has come loose, which is strange as I hardly use it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think i have the same problem, and it doesn't really bother me too much. If that is the only thing that makes weird noises on my MacBook after 14 months, then I am a happy camper. I think that this is the issue that can be solved with a little piece of folded up paper underneath the trackpad button.

Pop the battery out, and you will notice a circular area toward the middle of the laptop in the battery compartment (so, on the latch side of the compartment) that is where you want to put your small piece of folded paper. Not too thickly folded either, basically, something on the scale of a gum wrapper, folded up.

I popped it open today to see what you were talking about. I think I figured it out. There's a two layer type thing right where the trackpad button is. the top layer is plastic, the and the bottom is metal. I'm assuming I put it under the metal bit (basically right underneath the trackpad button). Do I stick it completely in (meaning I probably won't be able to get it out? That being said, it's not a fire hazard is it? I dunno how hot that part of the battery heats up, but having a piece of paper there is fine, right?

OK, you pull the battery, and you should see a circular area in line with the plastic area. This is the middle of the button. The later model MacBooks actually have a little rubber dot there to help support the button. I think this was introduced around the same time as the new plastic palmrests that do not stain as easily.

Anyway, you notice how there is a bit of a gap there on either side of where the button it, it isn't covered by the metal plating. I figure a little piece of folded paper, and a small strip of scotch tape might take care of your issue, and that is removable... which is good since it might take some experimentation to get it just right.
