MacBook Update

I'm new to the Mac world. I joined MacRumors after reading many helpful and insightful threads. I purchased a MacBook Air not too long ago without being informed that there is a highly awaited update to be released, rumored to carry specs such as an i5 processor, 4GB DDR3, 256SSD, and a much longer battery life, (40% increase).

I love the MacBook Air; I bought the highest specs for the Rev. 2 hoping it would last me a long time. I carry it to school, and wherever I go. I was simply wondering if Apple does a program where you can send your current MacBook into them, and have your specs refreshed and paying a fee for such services. I've also thought about selling my MacBook Air on ebay/craigslist, and then pay the remaining difference for the newer MBA. I was wondering if anyone could give me any insight on how to approach this, as I'm new to Macs. What do most of you Mac users do in times of an update of hardware?

Your best bet, according to what you are saying, is to sell and buy another... if that is what you want

If you really need a powerful MacBook Air then sell it on craigslist or eBay. They can't do a "refresh" program due to the fact that the ram and processor are integrated into the logic board.

The advice about upgrades is true for all Macs - not just the MacBook Air. The good news is that Macs tend to have better resale value than comparable PCs. So if you've got upgrade-itis, you should sell your old Mac on Craigslist, ebay, etc. Or pass it down the line - my wife's old iMac became the iMac for the study that my son can use.

Thank you very much to all of you for your help, I will most likely sell mine. I forgot to mention I am also subscribed to the 3 year apple care program. Is there anyway I can transfer that to my new MacBook Air?

Yes, you can transfer AppleCare to the new owner.

Not what he asked...

No, OP, you cannot transfer it to a different MBA. However, if it's less than a year old, perhaps you haven't yet activated the AppleCare. In that case you can just wait to apply it. Otherwise, hope to get a few extra dollars for the MBA you sell as it can transfer to the new owner.

In the future, don't buy and apply AppleCare until the Mac is nearly a year old... but ensure you do it right before it's a year old. I had this same problem with my second MBA. It was stolen, and I had been stupid and already applied AppleCare. According to Apple, I couldn't transfer it to a new Mac and my stolen MBA was covered for three years for the thief! I still think they really have a screwed up system.
