Macbook Updates Dull! Macbook Pro Updates Bright?

The problem is that most of the people expect too much from Apple.
I mean, what did you want? Yellow and orange MBs?
The MBP and the MB would eventually see Santa Rosa, and yes, probably at WWDC.
It is frenzied overhyping of expectations that sets people up for major disenchantment. Apple will do whatever is on the grand schedule and I will live with it either way. I am planning to buy and there is no way that my needs will not be perfectly served with the current computers. Everyone should relax and just let the process run its natural course. If we are pleasantly surprised, treat it as a bonus and seize the opportunity.
I like function over form. Colors are not for me. I personally prefer silver or black for most devices.
My friend today decided to go for a Santa Rosa laptop PC after waiting for a Santa Rosa Macbook. He felt the current Macbook offered less value for his money.
As I always felt, the current line up (with minor update) is to clear the stock to the back to school suckers! Who knows with Leopard, Santa Rosa Macbooks may be released!
Anyways, I am waiting for a new Macbook Pro!

I understand your position, but the big market for Apple is in people that normally is not in these forums and that don't really know what in this world does Santa Rosa means.
At least I could tell that my friends and family couldn't care less about the MB having Santa Rosa or C2D, or even CD.
The majority of people does not need the best processor, nor the best video graphics.
In fact, most of my friends want a Mac just because of the stylish design and cool factor.

I'm curious (honestly) as to why your friend prefers Santa Rosa + Vista over a non-SR C2D Mac OSX? It just seems odd that Santa Rosa tipped them one way or the other. A big gamer?
You should've convinced him to get a mac with this.

Some people feel they should get the latest technology when they are paying a premium. My friend is always on the move and any laptop more than 13" inch is difficult for him to accomodate along with his professional gear. He currently uses a 12" PowerBook and a 11" PC laptop (I don't remember the model). Though he can afford 15/17" Macbook Pro, he finds them as excess baggage. Yeah, you guessed right. He works in Japan!
I think that the MBP will be worth the hype. They raised the MB very close to the MBP. Still keeping it below specs from the MBP so they don't lose sales but allowing them to upgrade the MBP to meet most expectations.
Is price not an issue for your friend? $1,300 won't buy you much of a Santa Rosa anything. I spent that, including tax, upgrades, fees today, and got much better bang for the buck than any PC laptop.
I think the macbook updates paved the way for some nice MBP updates. First of all the higher end MBs and the low end MBP share the same proc speed, which apple hates to do (there is usually at least some little diff). I also think that the 1gig across the MB range is likely to mean a 2gig update to MBP's (basically the low end model). I wouldn't be surprised with stock 160gig HDD's either. Basically apple made the MBs a little too close to the MBP's for comfort and there are going to change that soon (no later than WWDC) and they know they are going to need to add something decent to one again distinguish the two lines of lappies. I think LED screen and SR/turbo cache (or wtvr its called) are gonna be the separating factors
If they add everything you just mentioned, the MBP will suddenly become light years ahead of the MB and will most certainly cannibalize the sales of the blackbook! Much less subtle than the difference before yesterday's update!
if MBP cannabalizes the sales of the blackbook thats good for apple, the MBP costs more=more money to apple.
True, but that's not the aim, the balance is a delicate one, a big difference in features between the two with the same price difference will just make the blackbook the least popular MB which is not a smart move considering that its the MB version that commands the greatest margin!
The biggest problem with the Macbook is the damn screen size.
Everyone gets all hot and bothered with wide screen displays. When in fact, for everything except for watching wide format DVD's, they are inferior to "tall" displays.
Think about it, editing a document, viewing a web page, taller is better.
If the macbook had a 13" traditional ratio screen it would be much usable.
I am a mac novice but have been using computers in one way or another since you had to push PLAY on the cassette deck to "load" a "program" into your TRS80.
To take it to an extreme. I've got a normal format Samsung display that I regularly rotate to vertical orientation. It is fantastic for editing documents that way.
Granted the wide format works great in larger sizes when you can display 2 pages at the same time, but for most stuf it is more form than function.
I am reallllllly hoping there is a 15" macbook, since it meets my needs in every way other than the screen size.
re hard drive sizes, now that I've got network attached storage, my hd needs are actually reduced. I've got 250 gb in my current machine and would not spend anything extra go get anywhere near that in a new machine.

You seem to forget that Apple also cares a lot about making stylish products. And wide seems more fashion than the square screen like the ones in the iBook.
And while when writing in word, excel ,etc. it do helps having a taller display. It is also helpful having a wide screen when using most of the iLife apps, or the pro apps that have a lot of panes.
The Macbooks (along with ALL of the Mac line) just went through various and many updates during the last TWELVE months!
What else do you want?? Sheesh.
Twelve months may be huge, but have you actually looked at the updates and compared updates to updates? Software update to software update? Hardware update to hardware update? Two CPU upgrades in an 18-month timeframe is pretty significant, IMO, cross-platform. Factor in that they're currently working on Leopard, too. Factor in that they're also addressing shortcomings in Jaguar... Factor in that there's a black Macbook also.
Seems like there's an awful lot of complaining when it isn't particularly warranted.
