the only thing that's keeping me from getting a macbook is the video card.
could i by an ATI graphics card separate and replace the intel one?

i don't think so. infact, i'm almost sure you can't. if anything, you'd have to just add another one (intel one is intergrated, so it's part of the motherboard).

as far as adding another one, i don't think there's a slot like in desktops.

where would it fit??

sorry, no upgrading the graphics card. if you want a better card, i'd go for the MBP, but you can't upgrade those down the line, either.

exactly. the only reason why i even stated adding another one is because today i read in a consumer reports magazine that a Sony laptop had 2 video cards, and it was a 13.3" laptop also. i was suprized

Are you some Hardcore gamer, or do you use Motion in FCS? The graphics card in the macbook isn't that bad, it handles many gmaes pretty well. If you don't do any GPU intensive tasks it doesn't really matter.

I've also read that Intels next Int. graphics chipset is supposed to be pretty damn good compared to this one. You may want to wait until the next Macbook revision.

yeah, a lot of people give it a much harder time than it deserves. i switched from a powerbook to this macbook and i haven't noticed a difference one bit..

That's the SZ, I believe. It has integrated graphics and a dedicated card, giving the option to switch off the dedicated gpu and gain battery life. If the majority of SZ’s didn’t have external antennas, they would be perfect for their class.

Yeah, they're pricey. The cheapest models come in at just under $2000, but they have premium models that go way beyond that. But, if one was looking for a laptop to replace the 12" powerbook, the SZ is a good option if one is open to other platforms. It fills that performance/portability gap between the 13" MacBook and 15" MacBook Pro.

the good thing is Intel GMA 950 is better than Ati Radeon 7500 32Mb.
the bad thing is ATi Radeon 7500 32Mb is 5 years old.

MacBook's adoption of Intel GMA 950 is undoubtedly a mistake, or failure, but it is good enough for your everyday use, just no intense 3D game. say, Doom
