Macbook vs iMac G5.... ???

hi guys... i got my new black Macbook C2d 2gb Ram 120 gb hard drive.....and it got me thinking.....which one would be faster my new Black Macbook or my 20" iMac g5 isight (the very last imac G5 PPC) it's got 1.5gb ram 250 gb Hard Drive.


Which one's more powerfull ?

now you ask, faster, but WHERE? ok so here's where i'd like to know which one has the upper hand:

a) Audio stuff (pro tools/logic/garage band etc)
b)Video/image stuff (imovie/final cut pro, photoshop, corel, Cinema etc)
c) Games
d) daily stuff/normal things (e-mail, web, office, playing with a few cool things here and there)

The MacBook has the clear advantage with any program that involves the CPU.

When it comes to the games, it's graphics card is left in the dust by whatever the iMac G5 has in it.

The MacBook is about equal to a dual 2 g5.

Isn't there a bit more of an advantage with the G5 being 64 bit? If not, could you please clarify.

I agree with what FF_Productions said, and would just add that for "daily stuff" like email or web, they should be about equal insofar as none of those things would present a challenge for either one of them.

No, it only has some 64 bit processing capabilities, but not a full 64 bit processor.

See, I thought OS X software such as the iLife and OS X (ppc versions) all took advantage of 64 bit processing and therefore still had an advantage over in the intels when it came to applications that could take advantage of 64 bit procesing.

In what way is the C2D not a "full 64 bit cpu"?

The only thing I can think of is the physical/virtual addressable memory ranges, and if that's our standard, the G5 isn't a "full 64 bit cpu" either.

Not AFAIK. OS X 64 bit support is somewhat limited. Most of the OS itself is 32bit, including the GUI. You can't link 64bit code to the 32bit code needed to drive the GUI, so you have to use inter-process communication.

I'm far from an expert on the iLife apps though, so perhaps they are doing that...
