macbook vs laptop

Um...a MacBook is a laptop (or notebook, as they call it these days). Can you maybe be a little more clear about what you mean?
A MacBook is a laptop... so your can't really say which is worse....also this is the iPod section.

Um, a MacBook is a laptop. Are you asking the difference between a Mac laptop and a Windows-based laptop?
Given that this is a Mac-centric site, you're probably going to get a lot of "of course the MacBook is better" responses. I'll be one of them.
The MacBook provides a nice suite of applications and features and runs OS X. Of course, much of the definition of what is "better" revolves around what you'll (or your cousin) will use it for.

Simple to use, once you get used to OS X, as it is different from Windows. Not difficult. Different.
No touch screen. In fact, most people prefer you don't touch their screens.
If it's for school, find out if the school has any application requirements that might help determine which one to get.
Battery life and charge time should be on par with most Windows-based laptops, although YMMV depending on usage patterns.
It's quite user friendly. You should head out to an Apple Store to check on out.

Very user friendly, its battery life is 5.5 hours or so Apple says, so its around there.. its perfect for school. There is currently no touch screen Mac out, as for charge time.. i have no idea.
