MacBook vs Macbook Pro

Yes its another one of these threads

I'm gonna be getting a mac this week and I need to decide between the MB and MBP.

I'm going to be using it mainly for the following:
-Photoshop
-Flash
-Coding (TextMate)
-Movies/Music

It's going to be hooked up to a KVM with my gaming PC.

So which is it? MB or MBP?

Which will be better? The MacBook Pro.. it faster computer. If you have the cash for a 15'' with 2Gbs of RAM get it, if not get a MacBook with an upgrade hardrive(100Gbs at least) and 2Gbs of RAM. It would also be smarter to buy 3rd party RAM
 
MBP it is a better computer. While the MB has the cool factor the MBP will serve you better.

Judging by your needs, no. Instead of saying "an extra $1000", reword it as "is a MBP as good as almost 2 MBs?"

You got your answer right there.
 
That's what I'm using my Macbook for, and it's definitely sufficient. I thought about getting an MBP for the bigger screen, but I'd be sacrificing battery life. Also, for Photoshop, extra RAM will make a bigger difference in performance than a little extra processing power.
 
I'd say a Macbook as MB has around the same computing power as the 15" MBP (2ghz) so it will be cheaper. Once you upgrade your RAM and HD (if needed), then you still have a cheaper computer, and a good one at that.

Photoshop will be a bit sluggish, so I'd say Max Ram regardless. When CS3 comes out, that baby will fly!

I agree, I think that a MacBook would work fine for your needs jodo. :)

That too, but I generally find their discount prices very underwhelming when compared to EDU pricing, and since discounts don't stack it really is one or the other.

Truish. Sometimes they really do drop the prices to move older stock. My machine is an example of just that.

The other option is to pick up a refurbished model and get the extended warranty. They usually have very serious discounts.
 
you are fairly vague on what you do. define video work. Final Cut Studio a lot or just iMovie once every couple of months.

define audio editing.

etc etc.
 
The most intense application i will be commonly using it for would probably be photoshop with a Wacom tablet.
It is going to be connected to a KVM switch with my gaming pc to 19" monitor and logitech keyboard/mouse.

From the responses so far I think im sold on the mid-range Macbook with 512 ram which will be upgraded to 2gb.

A few more questions:

Any one have any suggestions for a kvm? My monitor has both DVI and VGA ports.
And what brand of ram do you guys suggest?

I have OCZ RAM in my iBook and I've had no problems with it and it was cheap. I've also used Kingston and had no problems with it and got it on sale so it was cheap also :D. If you haven't noticed I'm on a very tight budget XD.
