MacBook wakes from sleep by itself

I recently got my C2D MacBook. I thought everything was good, but yesterday I noticed it turned itself on while in sleep mode. I just walked into the room and heard that the computer started making noise. Same thing happened today. I couldn't have done anything, since I wasn't near the computer.

Also, and this is a known problem from what I understand, sometimes it doesn't seem to work to turn it on from sleep mode. I open the computer, type in my password (I'm not going to turn that off), and then it just stands still. There's no way to fix this?

The second problem could be related to the first one, since I have not had the second problem when the computer didn't turn itself on during sleep. Might just've been a coincidence though.

No, because I'm unsure if I should.

On http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookefifirmwareupdate10.html Apple say the boot ROM version after installing the update should be MB11.0061.B03, while my current boot ROM version is MB21.00A5.B00. So, is it for C2D too, and the number I'm highlighting is something totally different?

It should tell you if it doesn't need updating.

I've had USB devices connected to machines that caused problems that seemed unrelated. e.g. a MacAlly keyboard used to power on my blue and white G3.

Have you anything connected that way? Also, do you have wake on LAN or modem enabled?

I have a USB mouse connected. I don't know if wake on LAN is enabled, I'll check when I get back home.

I have now turned off "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access". I don't see how it has anything to do with this, but I'll check if the problem continues.

Edit: Hooray, it seems my MacBook makes a whining sound when I don't have Photo Booth open.

Maybe, it's on the way to a repair in exchange for a healthy model. Good luck with it.

As long as it's in warranty, you can call the AppleCare people or visit a store and they'll help you with it for free. You can also check the online support pages.

They've had various incidents so you might find yourself with a repaired machine. I'd suggest handling it as soon as possible, so you don't end up paying. Make backups of your files, just in case.

Unfortunately I don't live in a country that have Apple Stores. I could probably mail them or something though.

Considering I just bought it, it should be quite some time before my warranty runs out.

Did you disconnect the mouse, as well? I know that it sounds as if it would never happens but if the mouse senses that it's been moved, the machine wakes, right? If it senses incorrectly, it could still think that it's been moved when it hasn't.

I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

However, it only wakes from sleep when I plug it into certain power outlets...

Uh, it wakes up when the mouse moves? Seriously? I can't test right now since I'm not at home.

That's odd. I don't know of a machine that doesn't, other than yours, of course. I suppose it doesn't wake when you touch the trackpad, either?

Well, I usually close the screen to achieve sleep mode. I could test it though.

Edit: No, it does not wake up when I just touch the touchpad. However, it obviously wakes up if I, for example, click on the mouse.
