My wife and I will soon begin attending law school and we are required to have laptops running Windows, preferably Vista. The requirement has to deal with testing software used by the law school, so there is no way around it - we have to use Windows, and I'd rather just buy Vista now rather than get XP and have to upgrade in a year or two (at which point I'll be broke).

My question is this: which version of Vista is best for the MacBook? Microsoft claims that the Aero interface (which my wife wants, and I am loathe to deny her to maintain peace for myself) will require a 128 MB card, but I have heard of this interface working fine on GMA 950s before as well. Will the interface function well on a MacBook Pro? Even if it doesn't, can I still install Home Premium on the MacBook? Or should I just recommend my wife use Home Basic and take my lumps?

Don't get Home Basic. It's a waste of money. You can get any other version though and run it fine. I run Ultimate on my Macbook just for kicks occasionally and it doesn't run too bad on Boot Camp.
