In a week or so I will be buying a new MacBook. I have 2 questions.

The only problems I seem to be hearing of is a 'heat' problem and a 'whine'.

Do all macbooks have these?

Is it a problem when operating the computer?

How loud is the whine, comparred to a desktop PC?

How hot does it get?

You will not be able to have children :)

If it is hot, don't just tolerate it. Either don't put it on your lap, or do and give up the idea of procreating...

im convinced that ALL macbooks have whine, and what it comes down to is whether or not your ears are sensitive enough to hear it. I'm on my third macbook now and I still have the whine, so now I've just decided to live with it. and the heat isnt bad at all. yes, it does get pretty warm...but not hot enough to burn. im actually looking forward to using this thing come winter :p

I've just returned my 4th for whining issues - it was actually the quietest one I've had so far and I was going to live with it but it had the noisiest PSU so far, it acts as an amplifier when on charge and the whine from it really annoyed me. I guess my hearing is too sensitive!

I wish I knew how mine whines compared to other machines. I don't know if I have super hearing. I only know that my Powerbook G4 / iBook was super quiet. It is still quieter than any Windows laptop that I have used.

Perhaps another solution is to play something with iTunes in the background to mask the sound. Maybe having a sound of a screaming and crying baby.
