Hey people, I've got this problem where I put the Office 2004 disc into my Macbook, it then waits a while and I hear some noises coming from the CD Drive which I don't usually hear, OS X doesn't show that any disc has been put in and then the disc just comes back out.

I've tried cleaning the disc but that doesn't help. I've also tried to copy the files onto my Windows PC and then burn them to a different disc but my Windows PC won't read the disc and I can't find any free program that will let me read Mac CDs on Windows.

I vaguely remember this happening with another CD before, think it may have been a CD for The Secret of Monkey Island (the PC version, but I put it in my Mac to play it in ScummVM www.scummvm.org). The way I fixed it then was to put it in my G3 iMac and copy the files over to my iPod and then install it using my iPod. Maybe the G3 somehow had a better drive than the Macbook, but unfortunately I don't have it anymore.

Thanks for reading guys,
Jack

Does this only occur with that cd? I know mine recently refused to accept any blank dvds or cds and would do what you described. Apple replaced the superdrive, no questions asked.

hey guys thanks for the replies

Try installing Macdrive on the PC and see if it detects it.

Thanks for the link man, but I'm now thinking that maybe instead of having to pay another load of money, I might just go and find another Mac and transfer the files onto my iPod, or even just go with the new version of NeoOffice, it looks pretty good although it seems to have some problems with opening powerpoint files.

Osarkon, yeah it's happened with one CD before, I think maybe the Macbook's disc drive maybe doesn't have the same quality of error correction the iMac's drive did. Thinking back that CD was really just a big mess of scratches, I'm pretty amazed that any computer managed to read that, but this disc is pretty much spotless.
