I am so upset...my brand new Black Macbook won't fall asleep when I close the lid. I've only had it for not even a day and I've already found a problem. :(

I browsed around for a solution, and I already tried resetting the SMS, but I get nothing. I know my next move is to call Apple, but I just wanted to see if anyone here knew of a quick fix. Please help!

Sometimes my Mac laptop won't sleep because a USB device is connected to it and something isn't working right, the command to shut it down or something.

Do you have USB devices plugged in? Any of them could be doing it so unplug them all and try again.

Nothing is plugged in and no other apps are running. I guess I'd better just make the call...

Sorry for bringing this back, but is it too difficult to just press the power button and click sleep?

If it happens on the first day with a brand new machine, then it is most likely a hardware problem that Apple needs to fix. Most problems in a new machine will happen within the first week.
