macbook wont turn off

ok so i got a new macbook and i have had it only a week...I will go to the apple menu and shutdown the machine, but it looks like it powers off and the screen goes black, but i will come back in an hour and the bottom is still burning hot and i flip the lid open and nothing....touch the keys and nothing.....hit the start button and nothing....i have to hold it down for about 5 secs and it starts up....when it launches it says something like..the system was not shut down properly.......what in the world is going on? this is crazy and thoughts?????

Unplug it and pull the battery out - reinsert the battery and go through the PMU reset.

All macs turn off if you hold the power button long enough. try that.
