Hi,

I've got a three day old MacBook (Black) with 2 gigs of ram. I'm running it connected to an external display. When I let the computer sit untouched, and the screensaver goes on, then the screen(s) go to sleep - when I later move the mouse, the screens both wake up, you can see the mouse cursor moving. However, it's a beachball. I let it sit like that for 10 minutes, never got a login window. I have to hard power-down.

I checked /var/log/system.log, the only thing I see previous to the next startup is:

Oct 13 19:29:04 david-j-ormans-computer /Applications/Mail.app/Contents/MacOS/Mail: removeDisplayMapping: _CGSUnmapFramebuffer returns -536870206

This is really annoying. The system is current, up to date with all patches. It's stable other than this. I did not experience this problem without the external display connected.

Thanks,
David

Well, if you purchased it brand new then you have the 90 Day Warranty so you can call in and figure out what is wrong and if you have AppleCare you can call that number. I don't know what else to say about your problem. I hope this helps. :)

I used to work for Apple, I know the procedure, thanks. :) I was hoping somebody around these parts might have had the issue and solved it, to save me the trouble of being put on hold and dealing with fools who haven't a clue what they are talking about. ;)

You should call apple because you should be able to connect to an external screen and expect your computer to come straight back to life after it has went to sleep. Ive never had that problem when connecting to an external monitor on my PowerBook G4 12" 1.5 GHZ.

I didn't have a problem with my 12" PB g4 1ghz either, same exact monitor. ;)

Thanks for the input!
