MacBook + X3100: After Effects, Motion

Okay, so I get that the X3100 is insufficient for a quality 3D gaming experience.

But can it handle apps like After Effects and Motion reasonably well, assuming said apps are NOT being used to render 3D graphics?

It depends on your definition of "reasonably." I would think most non-professionals would have a perfectly fine experience with AE and Motion on a MacBook, but you might have to twist a pro's arm to get him to work with one.

I tell everyone it like this: If you will be making the $1000 difference up by being THAT much more productive with a MBP, then that's your choice. If you can't live on a 13" screen, then the choice is equally easy. If you're allergic to plastic cases or glossy screens, same deal... Otherwise the MacBook is a fine computer, especially for the price.
