Earlier, i installed the Leopard 10.5.1 update and everything has been fine, however, the last couple of hours, my Macbooks froze and a box with the writing ''Your must restart your Macbook, hold down the power button for a few seconds'' has appeared and i've had to restart the Macbook. This has happened three times in the last couple of hours.

When i turn the Macbook back on, it gives me a message asking me if i want to report the problem to Apple and gives me the following information ....

Sun Nov 18 17:33:57 2007

Anyone know what the problem could be..?

hmm, looks like the airport driver is KPing the system. Try starting in safe mode and disabling airport. If it still KPs in safe mode, call AppleCare. But the airport is def. the problem:

Were you using Azureus or some other networking app that runs frequently in the background?

There are like 100 of us in one of the Apple forums who are experiencing this problems since upgrading to Leopard - same exact kernel panic - kernel_task.

I tend to think that while exacerbated by certain programs, because I've also had it happen when I'm not using anything but just a straight net connection, that the Airport drivers are glitchy.

10.5.1 hasn't fixed the problem. I just had one panic a few minutes ago.

I just had the same kernel panic. I checked around a couple other forums and websites and other people are having the same problem. From what I read, it could be caused by Azureus or other bitTorrent applications; and screen sharing is also causing this to happen sometimes. The 10.5.1 update did not fix the problem.

How are people connecting to the internet? Obviously via airport, but what protocol are you using for encryption? (WEP, WEP Enterprise, 802.1X, etc...)

I have the same problem accept using Tiger not Leopard!

I got the same problem. Although it gives me the message saying a certain ADPI driver or something is missing. Yes, I do use torrents like azureus, but I think the problem is that this morning I went on my Macbook and everything was fine, but then it said something like the "extension" folder in "System's Library" did not load properly or something and it said I would have to reinstall or fix it some other way. Anyway I went to the folder and it had some files that I've never even seen before and noticed that my HD space was lower than my last visit to my Macbook. So I stupidly deleted some of those files because I thought they were of no use..... and also I went into the "extension" folder in the 1st place because my msn or skype wouldn't start up and they had the ? on them. So i went to my apps, and double clicked skype and they worked fine, but then i went to find the msn app and it wasn't there. So I decided to download again(which should only take like 40 secs as I have 16mb broadband) but when i downloaded it(after taking eternity) it wouldn't mount properly... and even my other old .dmg files wouldn't mount either. So i thought this is really annoying and decided to boot up on my Windows partition(i'm running bootcamp) and played with that for a while, and when i booted to mac partition i get the message saying to restart because of a kernal panic and that a ADPI driver or something like that could not be found. I restarted and it just gives me that message again and again... I really dont want to reinstall everything because I do not have my copy of Windows at the moment and I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows through bootcamp all over again. If there is a way to reinstall the mac partition without deleting the windows partition please tell. Although I can't do that can i? because i can't get on the Mac to do anything! darn this sux...plz help!

I am getting the same message. It happens after I finish burning a DVD with Toast 8. This has happened 4 times in the past couple days.

...

Might i add, that I cannot get pass the kernel panic message. Others say they get it but they get passed it then it appears again. With me, I cannot get passed it at all, because when I restart I have to hold alt to choose which partition I want to boot(I'm running Windows XP SP2 with bootcamp beta and Mac OS X Tiger) so how do i get pass this?! I'm writing this on the windows partition.

Basically it is saying: Unable to find the drive for this platform:"ACPI".

Debugger called:<panic>
Backtrace, Format-Frame:Return Address (4 potential args on stack)
0x17e03df8:0x128d0d(0x3cc65 0x17e03elc 0x131f95 0x0
0x17 etc. etc,

Kernel Version:
Darwin Kernel Version:8.11.1:Wed Oct 10 18.23:28PDT 2007;root:xnu.792.25.24/release_1386

NOTE: I have not written everything exact, just a quick draw up to show u what kinda problem I have, which is similar to others just it says "unable to find drive for this platform "ACPI".

Please help
