With the rumoured upgrade due to coincide with Leopard I thought we could discuss possible options for apple to include in the next macbooks, heres what I’m expecting:

I guess processor is a good place to start, with the next upgrade many people are speculating on the Santa Rosa chip sets been used, personally I think its an obvious and welcome upgrade, with also the possibility of the high-end macbooks getting the 2.2GHz C2D processor that’s found in the current MBP

Next thing is RAM, I still think 1GB as standard is absolutely fine and don’t see any need for change, if people want more they can always add and additional chip

Displays, I think they will stick with the 13.3” Glossy screen that they offer at the moment, although I would like to see a 15” MB in the future but I don’t think that will ever happen

HardDrive, Again no real change in size needed and for anyone who needs more there is always the option of an external one,

Graphics is Defiantly due a change, they need to get something in there that puts it on par with at least the low-end GF7 series, I know people think giving it dedicated gfx would be a bad idea but imo as long as there’s a noticeable difference between the gfx cards in the MBP and MB it wont change or compromise sales

Optical Drive is fine as it stands

Battery life will increase with the new chip sets

Keyboard, could possibly make it back lit but other then that no real change needed either

I guess the only other main thing to talk about is price, I cant really see much of a change, there already priced well and I wouldn’t change a thing…. Unless there getting cheaper for us all

What do you guys expect with the next revision of the MB? And do you think its as close as people are expecting?

Zero defects would be nice for a start.

They will probably made it nice and green earth friendly with an LED display just like the new MBP's

An integrated solution consumes less power, takes less space in the enclosure and is cheaper - the latter is particularly an issue with consumer machines.

Even though the GMA 950 handles the max. requirements of some posters (e.g. WoW), they've said they went for a MBP simply for the virture - so some impact would be likely... to what extent I don't know. Of course, they are those who can't stretch to a MBP and are only holding off getting a MB as it doesn't have a graphics card.

Also, if the next update narrows the gap between the MBs and MBPs in terms of performance to anything like it was before the SR MBPs, Apple needs a decent GPU difference between the two machines - in which case, the integrated solution would probably be the best in terms of business sense.

I'm not sure what you want from this thread, I think it's very easy to predict what the MB will have with the next update, tbh the only thing they will change IMO is the chipset.

What Apple need is an ultra portable MBP with discrete graphics a la the powerbook 12".
