hey!
i just got my replacement, macbookpro. i only used it about 2 hours partially on the battery partially being charged. i only used safari, i photo. not much.

the question is the computer gets really warm. like when i am writing now the board around the keyboard is HOT, really...

is this normal?
thanks
B

download a temperature monitor and post your temps, then i could tell you if its anything to worry about
my 15,4 Macbook Pro hovers around 66 degrees Celcius.

i like CoreDuoTemp
you can download it here.
and then post your temps

coreduotemp result?

the temp goes between 58C abd 64C (around 140-145F). The percentage next to it varies upto 60%.
underneath it says mini: 1.0 ghz maxi: 2ghz current: 1.5 ghz

ok, so if this is normal, how do you achieve a long term working on the computer when you need to write for hours?

THANKS!!

thanks! i appreciate it.:D but then how do you achieve to work long time and type a long time? is there a way to cool it down

put a pillow betwen it and your lap. :p

I take it that your are joking, the MacBook Pro should always be on a flat surface (i.e., desk or table) so as to maintain proper airflow. :)

I think the problem the OP is taking about is around the keyboard, not the bottom of the MBP.

On the 3 MBPs I had, the area around the left speaker was around 110'F and the bar above the function keys was around 130F.

That, plus you could feel heat rising between the rows of keys with your fingertips.

Neither of these were issues when I was surfing (when my hand was mostly on the trackpad, or on the keyboard for a minute or two to reply on a forum), but the MacBook Pro sucked when I had to type for a decent amount of time.

I returned my MBPs for a MB which is a lot cooler around the keyboard area (when it's not charging, anyway)... :)

yes, aristobrat is right. it is painful to type.. this is a replacement for my powerbook which had multiple hardware changes and not fixed.

So i guess I can not change this one :( now since it is a replacement..

does your MBP happen to have the whine/buzz sound? If so, you may be able to get a replacement Logic Board....

For me, and apparently many others, the LB replacement also takes care of heat.

Old LB average temp - approx. 65C
New LB avg. temp - approx. 57C

to user23's suggestions
should this buzz/whine sound something subtle or obvious?

yeah, i know external keyboard might be the solution :( though sucks..

you can try the following, at first i thought i didnt have the "whine" or buzzing sound, but go into a quiet room and listen to your computer, then open PhotoBooth or a Mirror widget (anything that gets a feed from the iSight) and listen again, if you have the buzz/whine it will have gone away, and if you hear no change, then you dont have it.

i usually hear a buzzing from the left side of the MBP when not getting a feed from the iSight

HOWEVER!!! If you cant hear anything without doing this/the buzzing isnt blatantly apparent to you, DONT GO LOOKING FOR IT AS I DID!!!!!, it has since completely consumed my life,

this is also why i never check for dead pixels, it would annoy the heck out of me :p

buzzy, yes.

ok. yes. when i do the "test" it shows that i do have the buzz sound because even not loud the sound disappears when i open the photobooth. and yes, it is from the microphone section. on the left side.

the buzz sound also is more obvious when the MBP is on charger. the buzz is much less when it is working on battery.

so does this mean there is something wrong with the LB? what does this mean?

merci...
