Hello All, only 6 days into my New Stock 2.0 MBP and im having the major heat and whine issues. I call Apple they tell me i would have to go to the local Apple Store and have them take a look at it. My Question is unstead of having them take 2 days to look it over is there anyway i can go straight in and demand a newer serial numbered model MBP? Can everyone share their expierences?????

What you should have done on day 0 is test it throughly, and if you are not happy just slam it against an edge or something and call apple to say it is dented right out of the box.

I don't waste time listening to their CSOs and their "no known issues" delusions.

yeah thats what i didnt understand i was like, "
so for the heat issue
"i have to show up to a apple store prove to them there is a major heat issue"
apple "yes"
"for the whinning i have to do the same"
apple "yes"

"well, what i dont understand is that apple would release a product that runs people 2-3k and it is this buggy and their is many problems, is their anyway i could send the unit to you, you test and fix it and send it back to me becuase this unit is obviously defective."

apple " im sorry sir but the only thing i can tell you to do is set up a time with a apple rep at the local apple store and have it looked at."

this to me isnt customer service

another thing every word i said he was repeating back to me like i was openingly admiting my thoughts on the issue and he was documenting them. So he can be like well you said this and this.. haha we have your 2200 you have a faulty MBP and were not going to help you one bit. Really Felt Like i was being interegated or something.

If you got it at an Apple Store, just go to the genius bar and explain your problem. Give them the benefit of the doubt that they'll be helpful - definiteley don't go in and demand a new one. If they tell you there's nothing they can do, then you can ask to talk to the manager. They will listen to you much more if you're nice about it.

My apple store exchanged my MBP twice, and I never had to get "angry." I didn't even have to ask for an exchange, they were both offered to me after checking out my problems.

Honestly, I don't know if you will be able to get an exchange with the problems you have. They ARE hot notebooks, so I think the only way they'd exchange it for you is if there are signs it is overheating and causing damage to the machine. And the CPU whine...Apple's been saying it's "normal" and I have to say, I have heard CPU whines to varying degrees on almost every laptop that's come into my household (non-Apples included). I'm not saying it's not annoying (mine has one as well), but I do believe it will be fixed with a software update so I am content with the workarounds we have now.

Best of luck...but really, keep your cool when you go in, and if they try sending you on your way without any service then you can go nuts on 'em :)

I have PB 12". It's hot but not bothersome. I always wondered what "hot" was to people. Was my PB 12" hot and I was just okay with it? Then my dad recently got a MacBook Pro and let me tell you... there is "normal hot" and there is "holy crap drop the oven pan hot". That's what the MacBook Pro was like.

Hopefully you can get your issues worked out with your MacBook Pro. Be calm and nice and they'll generally reciprocate.

Wow. That is unbelievably dishonest. Its people like you who cause prices to rise on warranties (including the 1-year warranty, which is included in the price).

You can get what you want out of Apple without being dishonest. Just demand a working product and they will usually offer a 24 or 48-hour free shipping turnaround for you.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean. I thought my PB was hot, but I fooled around with someone's MBP the other day and I thought I smelled my legs cooking. Sort of anyway.

#1: multiple kernel panics a day for no reason
#2: LCD whine linked to a faulty inverter

Strange thing is, I know many people with MBPs and I'm the only one who has had problems! Leads me to believe there are a lot of good ones out there with varying production weeks.

AHAHAHAH
Pretty fun :D
Btw, as far as I know, this heat/hot temperature is a big part of the battery power that could be used to run your PC but is actually being thrown away with the temperature. ^^

Does that mean that you could take out the battery, and just run it off of an AC adapter, and it would stay cool and refreshing ?

Actually no.. perhaps service is better in the US, but here it is a whole different story altogether. My last experience with a PB involved going to a shop, waiting for the "Moron" to be free to attend to me, showing him my liney PB, having him say "it is normal!" and then wasting 2 hours on the phone with a CSO to no available.

Given the choice again I'd just whack it and get it over and done with. Apple can afford to lose a few hundred dollars reselling it as a refurb, after all they leech off from hundreds of thousands of suckers each year, I on the other hand appreciate doing things I enjoy in my free time rather than arguing with what's probably another poor minimum wager. He is not a fan of his job, neither am I out seeking to argue and waste time proving my case; my resort sticks it to the big guy and makes both MY day and the CSO's better.

In the UK, you can take your mbp or any other apple products back to the store for a full refund or new replacement within 28 days of purchase! Its actually the law and applies to all retailers. Reasons for taking a product back stretch from the product being defective in any way (nomatter how small), or simply that you weren't happy with it.

At work I use a company issued ThinkPad T43 and it whines when I run it off the battery and set the display to maximum performance. It stops when I plug it in. Is this similar to the MacBook Pro whine problem? My MacBook Pro 2.0 is supposed to be delivered today.

Thanks!

Not quite. The display/CPU whines are two different issues with the MBP. However, some people only get the CPU whine on battery power.

Each of the Thinkpads I've owned does exhibit the CPU whine to a certain extent though, so I'm sure it's similar to what you are familiar with.

Enjoy your MacBook Pro....they are amazing :D

What are you supposed to do if you don't have a local Apple Store?

I wouldn't have suggested fraud... but... well, your plan is pretty decent. I'd go in and demand a new one.

that's nice. but then i'd be affraid i'd have a computer that does weird things AND has a dent in it. i'd be affraid somehow apple would figure out a way to not accept it as a return. (for example; it might work fine.)
