MacBookPro Speaker Noise?

I have my macbookpro pluged into external speakers, and am getting strange electronic interference noise.

I had the same setup (speakers) plugged into my old powerbook and never had these issues...

Any suggestions? I checked to make sure the mic wasnt the cause. This is very annoying.

The software speaker icon is at 75% and the physical speaker volume is about the same.

Suggestions?

Are you sure all the plugs are clean or have not suffered damage?

Have you tried plugging other speakers/heasphones into the MBP?

Have you tried plugging the speakers into another computer?

This is the standard whining noise most macbook pro owners are complaining about. If you launch photobooth you'll notice that the whining will go away.

Damn you are right...

I only hear it with the speaks plugged in though... weird....

Yeah, the whine comes out the speakers...which is really bad for me since I'd like to record off the line out sometimes...this is the reason why Apple is replacing my MBP for me (that and the mouse button broke, but that could have just been fixed)...I'm hoping the new one doesn't have it. If the sound only came from the machine, I could live with it...but coming from the audio-out too is a real problem.

I know this is embarrassing but....

My issue isn't with the speakers on the Macbook Pro. (first off, why are they lower on Max setting in Mac OS X than while in Windows?), second off, while in Windows, I notice a red light coming from the audio port where you plug in the external speakers. Why is this? It just stays on.:S

I have the same problem with my mbp. when connected to both electricity(battery charger) and external speakers at the same time, there is, definitely, this irritating sound in the background coming from the speakers all the while. what should i do?

Same issue here (even after installing the latest software/firmware updates) I only noticed the random noise when i started using my MBP as a desktop and connecting it to external speakers (BOSE).

Any suggestions?


(Forgot to mention that opening photobooth doesn't eliminate the noise!!)

I just found the solution!!! Try unplugging the power cord, see if you still hear the static. I think it's electrostatic noise that the power cord picks up, like a radio antenna. So trying to move your computer to a different location or move the cord around. I shortened the cord, by unplugging the long part and inserting the little plug into the plastic square adapter and plugged it directly into the outlet. The noise dropped by around 70% and is now quite tolerable. Good luck!
