How well does EVE work with Macbooks? Best way to run the native client or through Win?

EVE launched their Mac client late last year. I used to play EVE on the PC years ago and I started up again a few months ago on the Mac client. I'll be honest, the client is not stable. I get, on average, a crash every 40 to 50 minutes. The graphics are fine and the game runs smooth enough, but the crashes are VERY annoying. At first I was dealing with it fine but after a while it was getting frustrating since I was too afraid to mine in low sector areas as I'd crash.

They are working on the Mac client, but overall it's not too bad if you can deal with the crashes.

I've heard the Mac native client is only for macbook pros +

Do you get better performance running EVE through Bootcamp or one of the xp things?

I have a MBP and Eve is almost unplayable with the Mac client. Unlike typical games, where it is the FPS that kill you on a Mac, here the client is just plain buggy. It crashed during character creation when I tried to change the shape of my toon's eyes. It regularly hangs when I enter or leave a station. It took me about ten attempts to run the tutorial all the way through, and there my client was hanging during combat - but the server didn't notice I was gone! So the fight was continuing without my input. Not good.

I switched to Vista under bootcamp and the client is as smooth as silk. Not one problem since.

All I use the mac client for now is logging in to assign new training tasks if I'm in a hurry and don't feel like actually playing the game.

Note - I've heard that parallels and other virtual machines don't play well with 3d graphics so you might want to research whether Eve under parallels works, if that is what you're thinking of trying.
