Macdrive question

I am interested with Macdrive

However, I was wondering what are the Pros and Cons about this program?
IE: Does virus in windows affect the OSX partition etc?

I have a SR MBP (June 2007, see sig)
and I use Bootcamp, AND VMware Fusion with Bootcamp partition.

Hi,

A Windows virus is a dead piece of code under Mac OS; it can not be installed, it can not install itself nor work under Mac OS -- like any other app written for Windows.

Two cons: you have to pay for the app and at this time it does not support any x64 Windows edition.

it wont necessarily write a virus or malicious code to the OSX partition...HOWEVER...its been best recommended to have MacDrive READ OSX Formatted drives instead of writing to prevent any destructive situations.

if youre under windows and somehow a file under the OSX partition gets deleted you could potentially have a messy situation with OSX formatted drive/partition.

Do you need to access files on your OS X partition while in boot camp? If you just need to have some files in both locations you can just copy those files under Fusion.

Let me second this recommendation. Leave MacDrive in Read Only mode, if it writes it will corrupt data. I've lost count of the number of times it's bitten me. I finally removed it completely after it corrupted two external back up drives a few weeks ago.

I'm still peeved about this. All Macs sold over the last couple of years are 64bit. You'd think they'd realize this and make a 64bit version of MacDrive.
