MacID better than Apple Watch Built-in Unlock feature?

Currently using a 15" 2012 i7 16gb RAM MBP and realize that of course Apple Watch unlock compatibility isn't supported due to the lack of 802.11ac band support. However, MacID seems to do a pretty good job, and perhaps even better.

How well does Apple Watch unlock work? MacID works with the iPhone and both the watch. Additionally, the computer will auto unlock and auto-lock when you leave the vicinity based on -dB. However, it does have its own problems with Sierra...

Does the built in support work flawlessly without the need of an iPhone etc? Can you you use an 802.11 AC USB adapter to make it work? Is it an improvement even worth it? Thank for any input.

It works quick & flawless for me, love that feature. If you're in an already known Wifi network the Watch will unlock your Mac without an iPhone.

And no, it doesn't work with an adapter.

I just bought it last night, installed it, and have uninstalled it. I spent 2 hours getting it to recognize my iphone6+, which required allowing MacID to "reset" my bluetooth. Somewhere in the course of the process MacID screwed up all of my continuity and handoff, which had been working flawlessly on my early 2011 MBP with he CAX updated card running CAT 2.4.2b in Sierra. So, $4 wasted for me. This morning, it took 30 seconds after I woke my MBP up from sleep before my Apple Watch even "connected" to the MBP. Much quicker to just type the password. I may try it again someday, but for now the other aspects of continuity and handoff are more important to me than this "simulated" auto unlock.
