Hello everyone,

For some reason in Big Sur it says my Macintosh HD is not mounted. When I press mount nothing happens. I need to mount the disk so I can partition the drive. Anyone know what to do?

Thanks

Is there a particular reason that you want to partition that volume? It's just as easy (and a better result, I think) if you simply add a volume to the container - which gives you access to the full space that the container uses.
Click the "View" icon, and choose "Show All Devices"
That will show all the partitions and containers on your drive.

I don't think you can split the partition that is the Macintosh HD anyway, it is a protected volume.

You need to be aware that the item you have selected in post #1 is not the "drive". It is a volume inside a container on your drive. Go to the view menu and select Show All Devices to get a better picture of what your'e working with. And it's not just any volume. It's your system volume. What you really want to do is add a third volume inside your container. All three volumes will share the space.
