MackBook Air (M1) screen concerns Prior to arrival

I jumped on the chance of getting the military discount on MacBook Air M1 with 16 GB and I am only concerned about the screen brightness/sharpness. I don’t have very good eyes (75 yrs), and I keep my iPad Pro at half brightness (about 50%) now and I’m wondering if anyone with this screen can weigh in and tell me for normal use, indoors only, are you happy with the screen brightness and sharpness? I’ll be using it just for normal emails, banking, YouTube, very little Photo editing, internet and very light gaming.

I’m not much younger than you, and I’m having no issues with the screen on my M1 MBA. I keep it just a tad over 50%.

I'm coming from a MBP 2015 and this MBA I have now is way brighter, I have to turn it down to 50% , my old one was 90-100%. It is a very clear and easy to read screen.

Very good to hear that both of you like it about 50% brightness. Once it arrives I’ll put it through the testing and If by chance I don’t like it I can always exchange it for a pro model but I really don’t like the Touch Bar

Is there a particular reason you must stay at 50% brightness? I’m not you age, but don’t have great sight myself. Using my iPad Pro as an example I run at about 75%. It’s a bit detrimental to battery life, of course, but still a good 8 hours light use, similar to what you envisage. Makes a huge difference turning up the screen a bit. These things can go very bright! I assume the m1 must be at least similar.

No. My iPad Pro is set at about 50% with a total of 600 nits, is good enough for me, So I was hoping with the 400 nits that the air has, I can still have it set anywhere between 60/70% and will be fine for my eyes. I like a bright screen like my iPhone and my iPad and I know that the air has less and was just hoping that it would be bright enough for me. I don’t use it outside so it should be

I use it a ton (like 10h per day).

Right now at 00.06 in a dark English house, I have it slightly under 50%.

The contrast and maximal brightness are great.

Dark mode is great as well.
