Very new to mac and its applications. Just got my first macbook and love it. Have questions about Macmail. What exactly is the general purpose of macmail? If I have a hotmail account can I link this up to it or is macmail a whole different thing? Sorry for the very stupid general questions but like I said I am very new to macs. Thanks in advance.

Right, Mail.app just (in the most simple aspect) exactly like any other mail application you'll use on any operating system- such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. It's there to have a local client that you use to check email, rather than having to go to a site and check it via webmail.
There's a plugin for Mail.app that lets you check hotmail email: http://sourceforge.net/projects/httpmail-plugin
I don't have a hotmail account so I've never used it myself, but I've heard it works well.

You can have Mac Mail to pull in hotmail. The only drawback is that you must have a premium account in hotmail (subscrition). MS set it up that way
AOL mail is fine and pretty easy to set up. Just google AOL mail to Mac OS X mail. If you use GMail same procedure in google to get instructions. If you get MS Office you can pull in regular hotmail in Entourage. Another way to pull in your hotmail is through MSN messenger for Mac.

hmm couldent find any real good ways to set up aol mail on os x mail ...
